Overnight Oven Baked French Toast

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter softened

  • 1 loaf whole wheat brioche bread cut into 8 slices

  • 5 large eggs

  • 2 cups fat-free milk

  • 1/2 cup canned coconut milk or heavy cream

  • 1/3 cup compliant brown sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 pinch nutmeg

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Utensils:

  • bread knife

  • cutting board

  • large baking dish

  • whisk

  • large mixing bowl

  • butter knife

  • plastic wrap


Instructions:

  1. prepare ingredients

  2. grease a large baking dish with butter

  3. evenly spread 2 tbsp of softened butter on the front side of each piece of bread and place them buttered side up in the baking dish

  4. get a large mixing bowl and add 5 large eggs and beat together until smooth

  5. add 2 cups of milk to the bowl

  6. add 1/2 cup of coconut milk to the bowl

  7. add 1/3 cup of brown sugar to the bowl

  8. add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon to the bowl

  9. add a pinch of nutmeg to the bowl

  10. add 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract to the bowl

  11. add 1/4 tsp of salt to the bowl ad whisk together until smooth and combined

  12. pour this mixture all over the bread and press each slice gently to absorb

  13. cover the dish with plastic wrap and place in the fridge overnight

  14. preheat the oven to 350°F

  15. remove the plastic wrap from the baking dish and place in the oven at 350°F for 50-60 minutes until the top is golden and the toast is set

  16. once baked, remove from oven and let it stand for 10 minutes before serving


When you are ready for serving, dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with syrup or honey and add fruit or nuts of choice.
